Talk #1: Dispelling Common Platform Engineering Myths (Paul Revello, Google)
Platform Engineering is a new approach to software delivery that is still being defined, but it is often misunderstood as "just automation" or a replacement for infrastructure teams— both of which are not the case. In this talk we'll go over some common misconceptions about Platform Engineering and how to better approach some of these topics.
Speaker Bio: Paul Revello
Paul is a lifelong technologist that has been focused on making the services his teams have provided easy to adopt and build on top of for as long as he can remember. His head has been in the clouds for a while now, but before that he was firmly rooted in the datacenter. When he is not thinking about IaC, team structures or how to bridge services together to ease adoption and speed value you will find him with his family in the NYC area exploring a museum or taking in live music.
Talk #2: When Your Colleagues Are Your Customers (Tom Elliott, Ocuroot)
Building a platform is like building a product— except you're often doing it without the guidance of a Product Manager. In this talk, we'll explore how platform engineers can effectively gather feedback from internal teams, prioritize high-impact projects, and prove ROI despite being a cost center.
Speaker Bio: Tom Elliott
Tom is an 18-year software engineer with focused expertise in DevOps. Over the past 5 years leading the SRE group at Yext, Tom oversaw the development of essential tooling and processes, including CI/CD pipelines, testing frameworks, and incident management. Now, Tom is building Ocuroot, a pipeline-free, yaml-free CI/CD tool designed for the Platform era.
