Debugging K8s in production with kubectl, KoolKits and Continuous Observability

While K8s is well understood by DevOps people by now, it remains a nut that developers are still trying to crack. Where do you start when there’s a production problem? How do you get the tools you’re used to in the remote container? How do you understand what is running where and what its current state is?
In this talk, we will dive into debugging a production application deployed to a Kubernetes cluster.

We will walk through and review
- kubectl debug - a new feature from the Kubernetes sig-cli team.
- the open source KoolKits project that offers a set of (opinionated) tools for kubectl debug.
- continuous observability efforts by using tools that are built for k8s scale and can run well in those environments, while remaining ergonomic for day to day use.

After a 30 minutes talk, there will be 15 minutes for Q&A.

Shai is a Developer Advocate at Lightrun. He’s a JavaOne rockstar that has been developing software professionally for ~30 years, a published author, an open-source contributor, an experienced trainer, and a public speaker. He picked up Java's first public beta when it was originally released, and later on moved to VM porting/authoring/internals and development tools including a 12 year period at Sun/Oracle.
He is also the co-founder of Codename One, an Open Source project that allows Java developers to build native applications for all mobile platforms in Java.
