Free Ukulele Lesson / Rhythm Guitar Practice (Helsinki)

Details

As part of our play-a-long music sessions in Helsinki, we run a free ukulele lesson / rhythm guitar practice session. It doesn't matter if you've never played before, as we will start you with the basics, and you will be playing basic songs by the end of your first lesson. The lesson is suitable for complete beginners for the ukulele, as well as providing instruction for rhythm guitar for people who are just starting out. We aim to work at a slow pace, working on four to six songs during the session.

We do have a limited number of ukuleles and guitars that can be borrowed for the session on a first come first served basis. It is best to bring your own instrument. If you don't have a guitar or ukulele, and aren't ready to purchase one, it is often possible to loan one from the library.

The lesson consists of the following:

  1. Introduction to the instrument, and basic strumming technique
  2. Playing simple chords ( C, G, Am, F, D)
  3. Playing simple songs together

Even if you have been playing for a while, the basic exercises we do in the session are always useful to practice, so you are welcome to come and join us as well. To challenge non-beginners, we can look at alternative chord shapes so you can add different voicings and texture to your playing. If you are a more advanced player (on any instrument) and wish to play along, practicing scales and lead lines, we will have a seperate side area where you can follow the lesson and noodle and improvise in your own space without disturbing the lesson.

Children are welcome as long as they are accompanied by a responsible adult.
