Cosmic Encounter

In this session, we'll play Cosmic Encounter (https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/39463/cosmic-encounter), with all expansions.

Ideal for board game beginners. The game is basically all about effects distorting a fairly simple set of rules. This results in a lot of chaos, strongly lessening the need (or possibility) of strategic planning. The game elements are very good at explaining what they do and when they can be used.

We need at least 4 players for this game. If we end up being less than that, we'll play Fury of Dracula (https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/181279/fury-dracula-thirdfourth-edition).

Game complexity: Medium. Simple core mechanics, but the game is all about distorting the rules by using cards or your character's ability. This leads to a few types of cards that need to be understood to be played correctly. Most of the time, the rules are stated on the card, but not always.

As usual, all the rules will be explained at the start of the session. We welcome new players. Any actions performed by mistake can simply be reverted, unless it led to something being revealed by another player.

The game has phases, which we explicitly go through by regularly asking if no one wants to perform an action before that particular phase ends.

All players start by choosing one of four random aliens. The complexity of these aliens depend on how familiar you are with the game:

• Never played before: 3 Easy, 1 Medium or Hard.
• Played once or twice: 2 Easy, 2 Medium or Hard.
• Knows the game: 1 Easy, 3 Medium or Hard.

• This meetup is for people who want to play board games in English.
• While the primary intent is to provide an occasion to practice English while having fun, native speakers are also welcome.
• Players are not expected to be familiar with the game being played.
• English level B2 or above required.
• Sessions are in English only.
• 2 Euros participation fee (i.e. Blastodice fee to access the games). Whether it'll be asked of you kinda depends on the barman, so I warn about it just in case.

If you previously thought you would attend a session but changed your mind, it's okay, but please change your status on the session's invitation list accordingly as soon as possible: spots are limited and you might be needlessly preventing others from attending.

Weekend session warnings:

• The bar opens at 3PM.
• The bar does not serve much food before 6:30PM (muffins and stuff like that are available, but no meal before that time). They sell plenty of drinks, though.
