Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro: Monthly Book Discussion

Details

Welcome to the monthly book discussion event! We meet on second Tuesday of the month to discuss our current read and pick a book for the next month.

Selection of the month: Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro

October Options

  1. The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson
Rather than relying on jump scares or gore, Jackson expertly builds a sense of dread and psychological terror, making readers question what is real and what is in the characters' minds. It's a fantastic choice for a book club because it offers a lot to discuss about themes of sanity, isolation, and the nature of fear itself.
  2. Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia
The book follows Noemí Taboada, a glamorous socialite who travels to a remote mansion to check on her cousin. She discovers a family with a dark history and a house that seems to be alive with malevolent secrets. This novel is a page-turner that blends gothic tropes with social commentary and rich, atmospheric detail.
  3. A Head Full of Ghosts by Paul Tremblay
The book masterfully blurs the lines between mental illness and supernatural possession, leaving the reader constantly uncertain about the true nature of what's happening. The ambiguity and the meta-narrative format provide plenty of material for a lively book club debate.
  4. The Southern Book Club's Guide to Slaying Vampires by Grady Hendrix
The story centers on a group of suburban housewives who run a book club and find themselves facing a real-life vampire threat in their small, Charleston neighborhood. It’s a fast-paced and engaging read that’s less about outright terror and more about the thrilling adventure of ordinary people fighting against an extraordinary evil.
