Plein air session at East River Roundabout - Under the RED SCULPTURE

What to Expect:
We’ll spend about 4 hours painting outdoors, enjoying the riverside breeze, and connecting with fellow artists in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. After the session, we’ll hang out nearby for a casual debrief or coffee, depending on the group’s mood.
This Sunday, we’re setting up at the East River Roundabout in Midtown Manhattan—a hidden gem tucked into the East River Esplanade, offering sweeping views of Roosevelt Island, the Queensboro Bridge, and the waterfront. It’s a unique combination of urban energy and natural calm—perfect for plein air painting!
What makes this location special:
• Dramatic views of the East River and skyline
• Architectural interest from the Queensboro Bridge
• Sculptural pedestrian ramp and urban park design
• Great light and reflections on the water
How to Get There:
Take the F train to Lexington Av/63 St, or the N, R, W, 4, 5, 6 to 59 St/Lexington Ave, then walk east to the East River at 60th Street. The Roundabout is located at the end of 60th, just past the FDR overpass. Look for the winding pedestrian ramp and circular viewing platform.
Agenda:
12:00 PM – 12:15 PM: Meet at the base of the pedestrian ramp (entrance at 60th St & York Ave)
12:15 PM – 3:30 PM: Plein air painting session along the Roundabout and esplanade
3:30 PM – 4:00 PM: Regroup for Show and Tell, then optional café hang nearby (plenty of spots on 1st/2nd Ave)
If you're new, we’d love for you to introduce yourself and share a bit about your art practice. Sharing your work is always optional!
What to Bring:

• Painting supplies: oil, watercolor, gouache, pens, pastels, tablet—whatever you work with
• Surfaces to paint on: canvas, paper, sketchbook, etc.
• Optional: easel, portable stool, or pochade box
• Comfortable clothes, hat, sunscreen, water, and bug spray
• A light snack if you want to picnic near your painting spot
