What to Expect:
We’re taking our creative energy to the Met Museum once more! We’ll spend around 3-4 hours sketching within the galleries, surrounded by iconic art. Only pencils and dry media (like charcoal or colored pencils) are allowed, so please plan accordingly.
This time you can also choose to paint the iconic building from the outside en plein air.
How to Get There:
By Subway:
4, 5, or 6 Train: Stop at 86th Street. Walk west to Fifth Avenue and head south to the Met.
C Train: Stop at 81st Street-Museum of Natural History, then walk east across Central Park to the Met.
By Bus:
Take the M1, M2, M3, or M4 bus along Fifth Avenue to 82nd Street.
By Car:
Parking garages are available nearby, though street parking can be limited.
Walking Directions:
Head to Fifth Avenue and 82nd Street, where the museum entrance is located.
Agenda:
5:00 PM - 05:15 PM: Make your way to European Sculpture and Decorative arts, Gallery 548.
We’ll meet near the sculpure of Perseus with the Head of Medusa, briefly introduce ourselves and head out to explore the Newly renovated The Michael C. Rockefeller Wing
5:30 PM - 7:30 PM: Sketching session in galleries. Feel free to move around or settle in one spot.
7:30 PM - 8:00 PM: Regroup for Show and tell in Gallery 354 (this might change based on how crowded the gallery is, check with the organizer)
If you’re new, introduce yourself and share your art practice.
What to Bring:
Drawing materials: Pencils, charcoal, colored pencils, or other dry media (no wet media allowed).
Sketchbook or paper: Bring your preferred size.
Folding stools are available free of charge at the MET , Just ask the museum staff when you enter from the 81st street entrance.
If you plan to paint outside, dress warm and remember your pocket hand warmers, gloves, and warm socks.
Bring your easel and any medium of choice to paint.
