What to Expect:
We’re taking our sketchbooks and easels to the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum on the Upper East Side! This Sunday, you can choose between plein-air sketching in the Arthur Ross Terrace & Garden or drawing inside the museum—perfect options whether you want crisp winter air or a warm indoor atmosphere.

The Cooper Hewitt is a design lover’s paradise, housed in the historic Carnegie Mansion (1902) with ornate interiors, sweeping staircases, and intimate gallery spaces bursting with creative inspiration. The garden outside offers quiet corners, elegant landscaping, and beautiful architectural views of the mansion—ideal for those who want to brave the cold for some outdoor work.

Indoors, we will sketch in designated public areas using pencils or dry media only.
Outdoors, painters and mixed-media artists can set up in the garden. With the colder weather, bundle up—this is the coziest kind of winter plein-air.

After the session, we’ll head to a nearby café on Madison Ave for something warm and art talk. Whether you're seasoned or just starting your art journey, you’ll find a friendly, low-pressure space to create and connect.
