Blockchain Basics

Understanding how blockchain technology works is not an easy task, but this meetup is a great way to get started or to round out your knowledge. The format for this event will be an informal presentation where attendees can ask questions as they arise. Over the course of the the meetup the presenter will cover:

• the origins of blockchain technology
• the fundamentals of how it works
• how it's being used today
• how it might be used in the future

Please note that this meetup is not about:

• trading cryptocurrency (e.g. Bitcoin) with other attendees
• promoting cryptocurrency trading services of any kind

About the presenter:

Rhys Faler is a serial entrepreneur and has had a long and diverse history in the blockchain space. His first exposure to the technology was in 2011 when he set up a Bitcoin mining rig and started trading cryptocurrency on a variety of online exchange platforms. In 2013, he co-founded CoinBeyond, a Bitcoin startup that allows merchants to easily accept Bitcoin at point-of-sale. The experience that he gained led him to consult with a variety of companies on how to strategically leverage blockchain technology to strengthen their business models. His most recent work in the blockchain space has been to establish a blockchain development course at Western Washington University and to vet a blockchain solution for sustainable forestry management.
