Welcome to the Poetry for Your Soul Virtuous Virtual Open Mic Meetup Group, where I am building a vibrant community for poets, performers, and poetry enthusiasts to share your spoken word to uplift, encourage, and empower! Join us and let your voice be heard. Whether you’re an experienced spoken word artist, an emerging poet, or someone who simply love the power of words, this space is for you.
Our meetups are a celebration of expression, creativity, and connection. We gather virtually to perform spoken word and immerse ourselves in the art of storytelling. Each session is a safe, supportive, and inclusive space where voices of all backgrounds and styles are welcomed and celebrated.
🚫 No foul language, disrespectful comments, or offensive behavior toward religion, cultures, ethnicities, or any individual.
Expect dynamic performances, heartfelt emotions, and a sense of belonging as we explore themes ranging from personal experiences and social justice to spirituality, love, identity, and beyond. Attendees can perform or simply enjoy the flow of words from the comfort of their own space. After each poem, you will have the opportunity to share your thoughts about the poem.

Ready to team up with another Poet or Poetess by exchanging metaphors and bring those words to life, we’ll gather around the theme:
"Petition of the Heart"Note: This is Open Write, you will collaborate with another Poet/Poetess.
It is required to turn your camera on upon joining Zoom session to confirm presence. When you are collaborating, you must have your camera on.
Note: To join the event, you’ll need to register your email with Zoom. If you don’t already have a Zoom account, I recommend signing up for a free one ahead of time. When you click the Zoom link, you’ll be required to sign in to your account before entering the session.Metaphor Exchange
We’ll begin with everyone turning their cameras on to say a quick hello and greet the group.
After friendly greetings, you will collaborate in a Metaphor Exchange with a Poet/Poetess. We will split into pairs using breakout rooms, where you’ll have 25 minutes. Each person will create one metaphor to give their partner. You can use the session theme or your own inspiration to write your metaphor. Partners will exchange metaphors and use them as the starting point to write a short poem of no more than 5 lines. Once we return to the main room, you and your partner will share your poems with the group in the spotlight.Here is an example for metaphor exchange, using the theme, “Petition of the Heart”, here is a metaphor to exchange with your partner: ‘My whispers carried softly on a gentle wind’. Your partner would write no more than 5 lines to the metaphor. Of course, your partner, would write a metaphor to exchange with you and you will write no more than 5 lines. Each pair will have the opportunity to share the poems written with the group in the spotlight.
Come have a good time, meet fellow poets and poetesses, and share your love for words. Together, we’ll inspire, uplift, and encourage one another as we write, create, and explore the beauty of poetry through the metaphor exchange. Whether you’re a seasoned writer or just beginning, this is a safe, joyful space to connect, express, and let your voice shine.
