On Democracies and Death Cults by Douglas Murray.

Details
Meeting at the usual place, upstairs at the Shakespeare Hotel, 200 Devonshire Street, Surry Hills, May 29 at 7.00pm, we will be discussing On Democracies and Death Cults by Douglas Murray**.**
On Democracies and Death Cults draws from Murray’s on-the-ground reporting in Israel, Gaza, and Lebanon. As a non-Jewish observer of the post–October 7 landscape, Murray confronts what he sees as the deep moral confusion in Western responses to the Hamas-Israel conflict.
His work contrasts Israel’s liberal democratic values with the ideology of Hamas, which openly prioritises death over life. With eyewitness accounts from victims, survivors, and perpetrators, he places recent violence in its historical context and argues that moral clarity is essential not just for Israel, but for the survival of Western civilisation.
Murray is a great writer and this work was only published on 8 April 2025, so hard copies may be difficult to come across. Amazon has it for $18 Kindle and $27 paperback. Otherwise, contact me at dalemills (at) cantab.net for a free PDF.
The format of the meeting is that we chat for an hour about the book and then close the meeting. Almost everyone stays behind to chat more about the book or anything else.
A $5 donation is requested to cover the outrageous sum demanded by Meetup for their service. Feel free not to pay if you are of limited means—I’m not keeping tabs on who donates or not.
