Dominion: The Making of the Western Mind by Tom Holland

Meeting at the usual place, The Shakespeare Hotel, 200 Devonshire Street, Surry Hills, at 7.00pm on Thursday 25 September 2025, we will be discussing Dominion: How the Christian Revolution Remade the World (2019) by Tom Holland.

Dominion discusses how Christian ideas have shaped Western civilization and culture - often in ways we take for granted today. Holland argues that many modern values, such as human rights, equality, and compassion, owe their origins to Christian thought. The book spans two millennia, tracing the rise of Christianity and its profound influence on law, ethics, politics, and art.

Tom Holland is a British historian and author known for his engaging narrative style. Dominion has been praised for its broad scope and thought-provoking insights into the legacy of Christianity.

The format of the discussion is that we focus on discussing the book for an hour. The meeting formally ends but almost everyone stays behind to talk more about the book or anything else.
