Fabric, Fern, Finality Gadgets & Substrate

Details
Web3 Foundation welcomes you to the second edition of Polkadot - London!
We are excited to be be back in town and are bringing with us some core members of the Polkadot team as well as some prominent local guest speakers.
First, we will hear from Richard Muirhead, Founding Partner, Fabric Ventures. Richard will provide some context on the decentralised web, how we're progressing towards web 3 and where Polkadot sits within this landscape.
At the last meetup, consensus from the community was to hear more about ‘Substrate’ - a fundamental component of the Polkadot protocol.
So what is Substrate? You can think of it as being like Express or another web application framework, but for building distributed or decentralised systems such as cryptocurrencies or a message bus.
Jack Fransham will give us a deep dive into ‘Substrate’ and its broad implications for the industry as a whole. Jack is a core developer and propagandist for Parity Technologies in Berlin. His main focuses as a developer are performance, WebAssembly and API design. He also enjoys coming up with tech education materials, writing deep dives and long walks on the beach.
Third, Dr Alistair Stewart will present on his latest research findings around finality gadgets. Alistair leads research for Polkadot and focuses on consensus algorithms. He has a PhD and has been a postdoc in theoretical computer science and worked in areas such as high-dimensional robust statistics and infinite-state stochastic models.
Finally, Francesco Canessa will introduce Fern Protocol; explain where it fits into web 3 and how Fern will enable an ecosystem of independent, compliant, yet anonymously engaged, node and oracle providers. Francesco is the CTO of Fern and also the CTO of Applied Blockchain. He has extensive experience in the application of blockchain technology in an enterprise environment.
Q&A and networking will follow the presentations.
Drinks and snacks will be provided.
This event is free but we can only accommodate a limited amount of guests. RSVP early!
