The Web3 Foundation is partnering with the Crypto Valley Association's Technology Working Group to kick off their autumn meetup series with the inaugural event of the Polkadot Zürich group. This will provide a chance to hear more about Polkadot and meet some of our team members based in Switzerland.

Event schedule updated: there will be four talks.

First talk:
Dr Edward Thomson will give a brief high-level overview of Polkadot and discuss the problems that Polkadot is trying to solve. Polkadot is a multichain platform that addresses blockchain governance, interoperability, and scalability issues.

Edward is the lead technical communicator at the Web3 Foundation. He covers technical communication and community partnerships. He graduated with a PhD in Astrophysics and MSc in Information Security.

Second talk:
Dr Alistair Stewart will be talking about approaches to consensus and finality in Proof of Stake protocols and specifically about finality gadgets.

Alistair is a Web3 Foundation Researcher, who has been focussing on consensus algorithms. He has a PhD and has been a postdoc in theoretical computer science. He worked in areas such as high-dimensional robust statistics and infinite-state stochastic models.

Third talk:
Reto Trinkler and Mark Greenslade of Trinkler Software will present on what they are building: Image Wallet and Agora Trade. They will discuss and demonstrate an Image Wallet, a twist on the wallet concept designed to appeal to a much broader user-base. Agora Trade is a custodial free, cross-chain cryptocurrency exchange.

Reto was a co-founder of Melonport and founder of Trinkler Software. He has a background in mathematics from ETH Zurich, and has been developing Ethereum smart contracts since the platform's inception.

Mark is a software crafter and family man. He recently joined Trinkler Software from the the heart of the Paris Left Bank (La Sorbonne).

Fourth talk:
Robert Kiel will be presenting on a new piece of research that he and Jeff Burdges of the Web3 Foundation are conducting in collaboration: idea is to build something better than Whisper, the message sending tool of Ethereum.

Robert recently started at as a researcher at Zug-based Validity Labs.
