Let's Get in Formation...starting with a book!

Details
This is part 2 of the book club. We will be talking about chapters 4-6. If you didn't go to the first event, you're still welcome to join!

As y'all know by now, our country is fucked. It's quickly become even more unsafe for many Americans in a matter of days. It feels hopeless. It feels like things are already out of hand and will only get worse. I've been wracking my brain about what I can actually do to help, and I'm sure many of you have too. And what I've landed on is this:
๐ช๐ผ We can arm ourselves with knowledge.
๐ช๐ผ We can spread correct information.
๐ช๐ผ We can brainstorm ideas.
๐ช๐ผ We can use our collective voice to speak louder.
๐ช๐ผ We can create resources for others.
๐ช๐ผ We can support each other in the LGBT+ community and fight for our black, brown, trans, and immigrating sisters.
First up: arming ourselves with knowledge. We're going to start with a limited series book club, covering White Fragility by Robin DiAngelo. "But I'm not racist!" you say. That's okay (in fact, good for you!). This book is meant for white liberals who want to dig deeper into their implicit biases, figure out why they do/say what they do, and become better allies.
Note: our friends of color are absolutely welcome! Even our independent and conservative friends are welcome if they are open-minded and wanting to learn. However, Trumpers will be thrown into the snow.
To prepare: read Chapters 4-6. Sure, you can read ahead. But no spoilers โ just kidding, the spoiler is that humans are terrible! In these chapters, we'll talk about why white folks have a hard time talking about how racism shapes white lives, the good/bad binary, and anti-blackness. We will also talk in general about what's happening in the country and the state right now and share ideas.
I will provide wine and snacks. Bring whatever you would like (or nothing at all).
**This event is cross-posted with the Middle-Aged and Newly Gay meetup.**
