JDK Flight Recorder in Eclipse OpenJ9 ; and Navigating a career in technology

Details

On 20th Aug, 2025 we have two sessions coming up. We will talk about the JDK Flight Recorder (JFR) & related performance debugging ; and we will listen to the inspiring tech journey of Jayashree s Kumar. Come and join us to learn and gain valuable insights.

Topic Title: JDK Flight Recorder in Eclipse OpenJ9: a new era in performance debugging
Abstract: Looking for ways to profile Java applications with Eclipse OpenJ9? Look no further! OpenJ9 now provides support for selected JFR events critical for performance tuning. JDK Flight Recorder (JFR) is a profiling and diagnostic tool designed to capture runtime insights with minimal overhead. This session will introduce JFR in OpenJ9, covering its current capabilities, supported events, and how to enable and use JFR for performance monitoring. Attendees will also learn how to visualize JFR profiling data using JDK Mission Control (JMC) and fine tune their application to perform efficiently.

Topic Title: Journey to Germany ... & so on.
Abstract:
Navigating a career in technology comes with its unique set of challenges and triumphs. My journey has taught me a powerful lesson: while talent is equally distributed, opportunity may not always be—but you have the power to create and grab it. In this session, through personal anecdotes, I'll share the best practices I learned for building a career I love. We'll cover the importance of taking ownership of your space, speaking up to share your views, and advocating for your work. I'll also highlight the critical roles of mentorship, collaboration, and learning to fail fast through experimentation, all of which have led me to give a talk here ;-). This session isn't just gonna be my story, but the actionable insights you can walk away with.
