Tariffs: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

Details
During Donald Trump's presidency, many tariffs were imposed on a variety of goods. Joe Biden quietly kept many of these tariffs in place. Again, for the past few months, tariffs have taken center stage on foreign trade policy.
This meeting we will discuss the definition, brief history and effects of tariffs. Are they always helpful or never so? On what does that depend?
How do tariffs figure into protectionism and free trade policies? Join us in exploring these questions and more.
Remember, this is NOT a master class or seminar given by economists; just a group discussion. It is incumbent upon all attending to do some research ahead of time. Please refer to some basic links below and add any links of your own to the comment section ahead of the meeting.
