The Port Townsend Web Developers meetup is back online after a holiday hiatus, and we’ve got a great presentation coming up!

Next Monday 1/26, local hardware guru Robin Hodgson will talk about Programmable I/O (PIO). What is PIO you may ask? Here’s how Robin describes it:

“The RP2040 processor in the Raspberry Pi Pico introduced the notion of PIO (Programmable I/O) blocks. Each PIO block is a collection of up to 4 tiny, deterministic programmable state machines, operating independently or in coordination with each other. PIO processors have their own simple instruction set, their own tiny instruction and data memories, but most importantly, their own programmable connections to the outside world. Their superpower is performing custom high-speed IO operations with precise timing, operating completely independently of the CPU cores. We will take a look at what they do, how to include them in your code, and some of the weird and wonderful things that people are doing with them.”

If that sounds interesting, come join us at the General HydroStatics building on the south side of the Rainer Street roundabout at 5:30pm on Monday January 26 for the talk. We’ll have pizza and beverages on hand and time to catch up with your fellow PTWDers afterward.
