A Strawberry Summer to Come…

Details

Hey Bird Enthusiasts!

Let’s go explore the cottonwood forest of Kelley point Park and find some migrant songbirds! The Yellow Warblers are proclaiming their sweetness from the treetops, while the strawberry red of a sapsucker’s head says that summer is just around the bend. We’ll spend some quality time in the park and remark on the beauty that surrounds us. Can you come?

Distance: 1.3 mile loop
Meeting Location: Meeting place is the very last parking lot (the third parking lot) on the entry road. We will all meet in the parking lot. Look for folks with binoculars!
What to Bring: Binoculars if you have them, hat, sunscreen, water, snacks.
Rest Stops: Benches are available approximately 0.3 miles into the walk.
Pacing: Slow, with frequent stops to view and listen for birds.
Elevation Changes: Largely flat with one short (approximately 30 feet) slope that exceeds ADA guidelines.
Trail Tread and Width: Paved. Between 40 and 60 inches. There are a lot of cracks and lips along the paved trails. All the trails leading to water are soft surface. There are two sets of restrooms with accessible stalls along the paths.
Bathrooms: An ADA-compliant bathroom is available along the route.
Public Transportation: Two bus stops are east and west of the park entrance. Both are under a half mile from the park entrance. Take the bike/pedestrian path along Marine Drive/Lombard Street and then use the underpass to get to the park. The underpass necessitates a little loop to get under the bridge that crosses the Columbia Slough. The 40-mile loop hiking and biking trail runs by the entrance to the park but across the street from Marine Drive. TriMet bus 11 has weekday service, only. Stay on bike path and use underpass east of bridge over Columbia Slough. To first parking lot is .4 mile.
