Ted Chiang: "Story of Your Life"
Details
What a wonderful gathering we had last time. Big thanks to Omar for bringing an actual (highly delicious) birthday cake to celebrate your's truly. I am truly blessed and I love you all.
I'm scheduling the next one immediately to give everyone time to read. This piece is not long by book club standards but it is long by short story standards—far and away the longest piece we've read to date, but I think it will be well worth it.
"Story of Your Life" is Ted Chiang's most famous story and the inspiration for the film "Arrival." A lot to discuss here and well suited to our recent forays into language and translation. Omar's comment that language "changes the way you think" is all but manifest in this piece.
Let's talk!
