Bald Head & Squirrel Lighthouse ( Arrowsic, Me.)
Details
Join us on this 4.4 mile hike to the open ledges of Bald Head. We will first visit the the historical and picturesque Squirrel Point Light, one of four original lighthouses along the Kennebec River, one of Maine’s most important commercial waterways, used like a highway back when roads were scarce. The lighthouse was built around 1898, about 15 years after the founding of Bath Iron Works up the river.
Doubling back part way we will cross ( only at low tiede) to the climb to the high point of Bald Head in 1.5 miles. Both trails are easy but rooty. This preserve is a 296-acre bald eagle nesting ground.
