Circle-sing with drums - Improvisational Jam

It's easy and natural! We'll provide optional percussion, or bring your own. No other instruments necessary.

This Drum+Song Circle Improvisational Jam combines the familiar drum circle with "circle singing" – an improvised, collaborative vocal practice developed by Bobby McFerrin. Here are examples of both:

We'll start out with some breathing exercises and go over the basic concepts. The leader will improvise the foundational parts (melodies, rhythms, and harmonies). You'll add or be assigned simple parts that layer into beautifully evolving vocal loops.

Between songs, we'll pause to reflect and play with new techniques. It's simpler than you think, and it's okay to feel a little nervous at first. But as McFerrin says, circle singing is "a celebration of what human voices can do together." Expect to leave energized, connected, and amazed at what a room full of voices can create together!

All jams start promptly on the hour, with a break at 10 minutes before each hour. There is a $20 suggested donation via PayPal.
