Sellwood Riverfront Park hike to Chamber Music Northwest rehearsal

Details
Join us on a 7.2-mile route that combines a nature hike, chamber music and a residential stroll.
The midway destination is Reed College for the 11 am open rehearsal of music for a string quartet and double bass. Chamber Music Northwest commissioned composer Alistair Coleman’s "Ghost Art Canticles" for its 2025 Summer Festival.
The rehearsal in the air-conditioned Kaul Auditorium should last about one hour, including a question-and-answer session.
The hike starts at Sellwood Riverfront Park, which has ample free parking. We’ll hike scenic trails of the Oaks Bottom Wildlife Refuge before traversing quiet Sellwood neighborhoods. After crossing SE McLoughlin Boulevard on the SE Bybee overpass, the hike skirts the Eastmoreland Golf Course before arriving at Reed College.
The return trip to Sellwood Riverfront Park enters Westmoreland Park before taking neighborhood sidewalks to Sellwood Park. Food carts are available in the 1200 block of SE Lexington.
The hike to Reed College is 4.3 miles and the return trip 2.9 miles. Be prepared to average 2.5 to 3 mph on the route that encounters only gentle hills. Bring water and a hat as the forecast calls for sunny skies with temperatures in the mid-90s. Sturdy closed-toe shoes are recommended. No dogs are permitted at the indoor rehearsal.
