About us
Have you ever encountered a piece of art and immediately wanted someone to talk about it with?
Portland Arts & Imagination Club is for people who love creative rabbit holes. People who light up when someone says, “You have to see this.” People who want to discover what others are watching, hearing, reading, visiting and making and then stay up talking about it longer than expected.
We’ll gather at cozy cafés and bars to geek out over whatever has captured our attention lately. We’ll explore exhibitions, catch unusual films and performances, visit independent creative spaces and occasionally follow a strange recommendation just to see where it leads.
Some of us make art. Some of us collect experiences and ideas. Most of us probably do a little or lot of both.
We’re especially excited by work that surprises us, unsettles us, makes us laugh or refuses to leave our heads. That might mean discovering an experimental musician one month, wandering through a surreal exhibition the next or becoming temporarily obsessed with an artist none of us had heard of before.
Curiosity is the only credential. Artists, musicians, writers, filmmakers, designers, makers and enthusiastic art explorers are all welcome. Come alone, share whatever you’re excited about and prepare to leave with several new things to investigate.
The hope is to build a socially warm, slightly unusual, and queer-friendly creative community where people return, recognize one another, and form real friendships and possibly even collaborations!
If you love art but miss the part where you get to chat about it afterward, come hang out!
