About us
Welcome! This meetup dedicated to all professionals involved in Cyber Security for Automated Processes and Control Systems including security for Operating Technology (OT), Industrial Control Systems (ICS), SCADA Systems, Transportation Systems, Building Control Systems (BCS), and even emerging Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) systems. Our purpose is to connect the professionals in the Greater Portland area with real interest in or responsibility for the cyber security of these systems.
Once we have enough critical mass of interest in Portland, we will gather for purposes of education, information exchange, and discovery of new opportunities and, yes, perhaps a few happy hours! If you are interested in serving on a committee to help shape this meetup experience, please contact the organizers directly.

(CS)²AI Online™ REPLAY Fellow Chat:Building OT Capacity for IR & Pentesting
·OnlineOnline14 attendees from 112 groupsOperational Technology (OT) environments face unique challenges when it comes to incident response (IR) and penetration testing. As cyber threats continue to evolve, organizations must strengthen their capacity to prepare, detect, and respond effectively to incidents—while also proactively testing defenses to uncover vulnerabilities before adversaries do.
Join us for this recorded seminar with CS2AI Fellows and leading experts exploring strategies, best practices, and lessons learned for building OT-specific capabilities in both IR and pentesting. Participants will gain actionable insights into:
- Tailoring IR processes for OT systems
- Overcoming common pitfalls in OT pentesting
- Strengthening team skills and capacity to meet today’s threat landscape
- Leveraging industry tools and frameworks to build resilience
This session will equip practitioners, defenders, and decision-makers with the knowledge needed to enhance security postures across critical infrastructure.

(CS)²AI Online™: Ubiquitous OT-Cybersecurity Consequences in Thrill Rides
·OnlineOnline17 attendees from 112 groupsWhat does a roller coaster have in common with a refinery? More than you'd think. This talk applies bowtie analysis — a proven process safety methodology — to theme park ride control systems, showing how OT cybersecurity and functional safety can be quantified together in a single framework.
Theme park ride control systems occupy a rare and underappreciated position in the OT cybersecurity landscape: they are life-safety-critical and continuously networked. While the integrated system is unique to each installation, the components themselves are an integration of commercial IT and OT products, often managed by teams whose primary expertise is mechanical and electrical engineering, not cybersecurity. As cyber threats targeting industrial control systems grow more sophisticated, the theme park industry needs analytical frameworks that speak both languages: the language of functional safety and the language of cyber risk. Bowtie analysis does exactly that.
John will examine managing the risks in these ubiquitous systems using bowtie analysis, which is a visual risk methodology with deep roots in the process safety world, refineries, chemical plants, offshore platforms, where it has been used for decades to map threat and cause pathways to a top event, and consequence pathways from the top event to harm.
This talk is for everyone dealing with ICS/OT cybersecurity risks and their management.
