PDX DevOps meetup is in full swing. We have a roadmap of speakers and are actively looking for more speakers!

We have a new home and plan to be in this location for the foreseeable future. The event is held at the Reperio office in SE Portland. There is a parking lot available for drivers and it's right off the Orange Line for MAX commuters. If you are coming from SW, rumor has it you take the Blue line to the Orange line.

For those who aren't able to make it in person but would like to participate there will be a zoom link dropped in the Discord prior to the event.

THIS MONTH'S TALK:
Talk Intro If you've been on the internet for more than 20 minutes, you've likely run into a prompt offering to help you "sign in quicker and safer with passkeys!" But what are passkeys, and why are a whole bunch of companies trying to get you to make them? In this talk, Alex will cover what passkeys are, how they can be used in place of passwords, where they fit in the overall authentication landscape, how they work, and most importantly, where they break down. This talk is intended for all technical skill levels, but there will be some light JavaScript involved (and some minor discussion of lower-level APIs).

About the Speaker: Alex Ward (he/him) has been writing software for close to 20 years and has a slightly unhealthy obsession with Authentication and everything surrounding the topic. When he's not ranting about AuthN and AuthZ on Authomnibus.com, he's writing fiction, making TTRPGs, and hanging out here in Portland with you lovely folks.

And you enter the building through the North-East corner of SE 17th Ave & SE Schillings, by Ruse Brewing. - Then just go through the lobby past the glass double doors and loading dock, then turn left down the interior corridor. The suite is the Second door on the left.
