Swift Watching!
Details
September marks Vaux's Swift migration season! Along their path, groups of swifts must find places to roost and a whole lot of them decided that the smoke stack at Chapman Elementary School is their jam! We will bike together from The eBike Store down to Chapman and back, witnessing one of the coolest birding opportunities!
Schedule:
- 5:45pm - Arrive @ The eBike Store
- 6:00pm - Depart
- 6:30pm - Arrive @ Chapman Elementary School (Bird Watch!)
- 7:30pm - Depart Chapman
- 8:00pm - Arrive back @ The eBike Store
About the route:
a) Terrain - All pavement in good to great condition
b) Bike friendliness - Good! 60% bike lanes, 40% shared streets
c) Length - 10.3 miles total
d) Elevation Gain - +371 feet
e) Parking - There are tons of parking options in the neighborhoods surrounding Peninsula Park. Those arriving on bike can sneak through the orange gate on the east side of the parking lot.
f) Pace - The ride will be at a casual pace (~10-12 mph). We will stay together as a group as much as possible.

Gear:
- BYOB (bring your own bicycle). Acoustic/analog bikes welcome too!
- Make sure your bike is in proper working order. We will stop to help with maintenance within reason. Bring flat repair gear!
- Ensure that you bring snacks and water.
- LIGHTS. We will be returning in the dark.
