What we’re about
It's time to feel wonder again.
Have you found yourself in a reading slump? Do you keep picking up books that leave you depressed and uninspired?
Maybe you need more magic in your life.
This fantasy-only book club meets each month to discuss a new fantasy read. We follow the same schedule as the More Magic Book Club (I host on this on Substack along with the More Magic podcast) to make things easy.
The 2026 schedule:
January - The Bear and the Nightingale by Katherine Arden
February - The Incandescent by Emily Tesh
March - Agnes Aubert's Mystical Cat Shelter by Heather Fawcett
April - A Natural History of Dragons by Marie Brennan
May - The Fifth Season by N. K. Jemisin
June - Circe by Madeline Miller
July - The Golem and the Jinni by Helene Wecker
August - The Tainted Cup by Robert Jackson Bennet
September - Hekate by Nikita Gill
October - Legends & Lattes by Travis Baldree
November - Hemlock & Silver by T. Kingfisher
December - Mistborn: The Final Empire by Brandon Sanderson
If any of the titles interest you, grab a copy, give it a read, and join us to share your thoughts! I'll bring discussion topics to get the conversation going.
Be kind and considerate in your discussion. The book might be someone's favorite, and it's no fun to have someone rip apart something you love.
If you are unable to attend in person but still want to participate, join us on Storygraph! Each book will have its own Buddy Read on Storygraph. You can find all of the links in this post on Substack, and the Storygraph link will also be shared in the Meetup event once it's scheduled.
We tend to meet the third or fourth Saturday of the month for book club, and we will have a few other types of events in 2026. If there are any you'd like to see, please take this quick survey to provide feedback!
I'm looking forward to meeting you and hearing your thoughts on the books!

Join Us at Wintercon!
Sellwood Community House, 1436 SE Spokane St, Portland, OR, USJoin the More Magic crew at Wintercon 2026!
Hosted by Rose City Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers, Wintercon is a celebration of all things SFF. This evening conference provides a magical escape in Sellwood where you can test boardgames by a local boardgame maker, learn about medieval swords, and connect with other fantasy lovers. Whether you’re a reader, a writer, or both, this is a perfect reason to brave the cold to spend an evening immersed in Portland’s SFF scene.
I’m hosting the 7:00 pm reader panel with local author A. J. Peterson where we will discuss why fantasy is perfect for escape and hope in uncertain times, and share a few of our favorite reads for inspiration.
Tickets are free and strongly encouraged as the events have limited space. You can sign up for the events you’re interested in here.
Please also RSVP here on Meetup so I know you’re attending! I’ll share details on how to find us the day of the event, and I’ll see you for the 7pm panel! :)2 attendees
