What we’re about
This group is for local paddlers who want to connect with the paddling community and keep up-to-date on group paddles, special events and classes at Portland Paddle. We have free weekly gatherings during the summer, and we also have a full menu of classes, tours, and guided expeditions. Check out the calendar at portlandpaddle.net for more info. Participants MUST register through portlandpaddle.net to reserve a spot for ALL events. We cannot guarantee space in a class or tour if you have only RSVP'd on Meetup.
We do not conduct full operations between October and April each year. However, we do host occasional pool sessions and winter guided trips during the off season. Please keep an eye out for those updates.
If you love the water and paddling come check out Portland Paddle at one of our two awesome locations, Crescent Beach in Cape Elizabeth or the East End Beach in Portland. We offer paddleboard and kayak rentals, tours, and lessons! Additionally, we have some fun, free opportunities to help you get out on the water and build skills!
Upcoming events (4+)
See all- Tuesday Morning Community Paddle for Sea Kayakers (experience required)Cutter Street, Portland, ME
WHEN: 7:30am-8:30am every Tuesday. We plan to launch at 7:30am sharp! Please arrive early enough to be floating by then.
WHERE: Portland Paddle's site at the East End Beach (look for our sign).
WHO: Anyone who is confident and comfortable paddling a sea kayak on Casco Bay with a group; prior sea kayaking experience required
COST: Free with your own sea kayak and for Portland Paddle members; all boats used must be at least 14 feet in length. Or rent a kayak for $30 if you are not a Portland Paddle member. Click here to reserve a kayak to rent.
Details: This weekly gathering is a casual paddle open to anyone with prior sea kayaking experience who feels comfortable and confident paddling on the ocean. This is not a guided trip or a lesson, so everyone is responsible for their own safety. One member of our staff will be there to facilitate, though, and they are happy to share their knowledge of the sport. However, if you expect to need support and instruction in order to paddle with the group you should first take one of Portland Paddle's lessons.
The group will stay on the water for about an hour and will pick a destination that fits the conditions and participants. Sea kayaks are very different than "recreational" kayaks (often referred to as lake or river kayaks), and this weekly paddle is only meant for people who are comfortable in this type of kayak, which have key safety features.
If you are renting a kayak from us, please arrive at least 15 minutes early so we can select a boat for you and help your move it to the beach.
