What we’re about
Assalamu Alaykum brothers and sisters. Have you walked on egg shells around auntie and uncles because you like "western" music? Have you had a man redirect you to the women's side of the masjid when visiting a new one for the first time? Ever wondered why a woman can't be the Imam? Have you heard a brother rant about how the gay west will corrupt your children, and think back to nice gay guys you made friends with? All except one I have experienced except one of these things, I am a man after all.
Howdy, I am Hajji! I was raised a feminist by a brave mother. The nicest people I know are queer identifying in one way or another. Yet I still feel something when I read Quran, listen to Adhan, and practice Zikr. I am very open to what the idea of a "progressive" and don't want put hard limits on who can join. Yet this is the minimum that comes to mind. I don't drink or smoke but I won't shame you if you do.
- Believe in science
- Don't think everything in the "West" is evil. I got my bachelors in colonial history in the Arab world, I can go on for a while the faults of the West but everyone has good ideas once in a while
- Believe women need to be treated with greater respect in our community
- Believe we should not cast out our LGBTIA+ family members just because of who they love.
"Kind speech and forgiveness are better than charity followed by injury. And Allah is Free of need and Forbearing." - Surah Al-Baqarah Ayat 263
I am just tired of having to hold my tongue with my fellow Muslims and hoping to make some friends who share my faith and views. I have not been lucky so far. I imagine this as a book club but I am open to other ideas for meetings.
Current Meetings are place holders, the first few members get to define the time. One more reason to jump in on this new venture!
Peace and Blessing Be Upon You
