The Hoyt Arboretum magnolias have returned, smug as ever, mounting yet another manipulative springtime disinformation campaign aimed at prying Portlanders out of our mossy winter hollows with color, fragrance, and false hope.

We will not be swayed by these floral hucksters.

This will be an educational walk through Hoyt Arboretum’s Magnolia Trail at peak bloom, where I’ll be sharing the history of magnolias, the different varieties we’ll encounter, and how Hoyt Arboretum built this dazzling annual display.

Please bring your fully charged mobile phone. It will be your passport for an interactive magnolia guide that will help us study the full scope of this floral manipulation.

We will not simply stand there admiring the propaganda. We will study it, understand it, and arm ourselves with the knowledge needed to resist it.

Come test your resolve, learn the backstory behind these outrageously persuasive blossoms, and prove that no amount of floral theater can shake your deeply rooted Portland winter pessimism.
