The outing: Putting in at Paradise Point State Park, we'll paddle downstream on the Lewis River Water Trail, past the Two Forks Wildlife Area and the confluence of the East Fork & North Fork Lewis Rivers. At the historic/trestle railroad bridge, we'll take a break for lunch before returning to the put-in. We'll likely see a bald eagle or two, ospreys and blue herons.
Max signup: 10 participants (plus 2 leaders).
The leader needs: Your FULL NAME, email address, cell number and the name and number of an emergency contact. Please include this information if you sign up for this outing.
Meeting time/date/location: 10 a.m., Sept. 11/Thurs, Paradise Point State Park, exit 16 off I-5 north. Stay right and follow the signs to the park. In the park, turn left and continue downhill to the East Fork put-in area.
State Park fee: Washington state parks require a $10 daily Discovery Pass, which is filled out and paid (checks or cash) at the put-in location. An annual pass is $45 and may be ordered online from the Washington Dept. of Licensing.
Sign-in/Waiver: Sierra Club outings policy requires all participants to sign a waiver of liability before getting on the water. The waiver asks for your full name, email address, cell number and the name and number of an emergency contact.
Outing donation: Sierra Club members $2, non-members $4. We can't accept Venmo or debit cards, but take checks (made out to Sierra Club) and cash. Having correct cash is extremely helpful.
Kayak rental: There are no kayak rentals at Paradise Point State Park. You'll need to bring your own kayak, or a rental. Don't forget your paddle and pfd (life jacket). When you're on the water, you must wear a pfd.
Inflatables/paddleboards: Inflatable kayaks and paddleboards are not acceptable on this outing. We paddle at a moderate pace, but experience has shown that inflatables cannot keep pace with the group.
Weather: Thunderstorms, lightning or high winds will cancel this outing. Participants will receive a weather update on Sept 9/Tues.
What to wear and bring: Kayak, paddle & pfd. Clothing to suit weather. NOTE: No cotton! Polyester, nylon or polypropylene are far superior. Broad-brim hat recommended. Footwear: water shoes or river sandals. Expect your feet to get wet. Lunch and a FULL water bottle (no water at the put-in). Sunglasses and sunscreen. Include a croakie with your sunglasses so you won't lose them in the water.
Pets: This outing is not suitable for pets.
Questions: Email the outing leader, tripsguy@aol.com, or the assistant leader (on Meetup). Note: Outing leader is unavailable Aug 30-Sept 7.
