Kayaking Lake River south

Details

The outing: Putting in at Felida Moorage (just N of Vancouver Lake), we'll paddle N past floating homes on Lake River to Salmon Creek and beyond. If water level permits, we'll explore Salmon Creek before returning to Lake River to find a sandy beach for a lunch break. Expect to be back at the put-in by 2 p.m. or before. On past outings, we've seen deer, great blue herons and a bald eagle.
Skill level: This outing is suitable for beginning/novice kayakers who've previously been on the water and can perform basic paddling in a kayak. We paddle at a moderate but steady pace.
The leader needs: Your FULL name, email address and cell number. If you bring a guest (1 allowed), include the name, email and cell number of your guest, and also the name and cell number of an emergency contact. Signup deadline: July 9/Wed.
Kayak rentals: No kayak rentals at Felida Moorage. Bring your own kayak or a rental. Don't forget your pfd (life jacket) and paddle. No one gets on the water without wearing a pfd.
Meeting time & location: 9:30 a.m., July 10/Thurs, at Felida Moorage, located at the end of NW 122nd St in Vancouver. Please be prompt.
Directions: Follow I-5 N or S to exit 4 (NE 78th St). Drive west on NE 78th St to Fruit Valley Rd, then R. Fruit Valley Rd becomes NW Lakeshore Ave. Follow Lakeshore to NW 122nd St, and turn L to Felida Moorage.
Launch fee: Felida Moorage asks a $5 launch fee (cash). Park and then drop this fee in a black box next to the Moorage office, then drive through a gate to the launch area.
Outing donation: Sierra Club members $2, non-members $4, cash or check (made to Sierra Club). Try to have the correct amount. We can't do Venmo, debit or credit cards on site.
Waiver/sign-up: Sierra Club outing policy requires all participants to sign a waiver of liability. Email your full name and other info (see above) to the outing leader in advance to save time at the put-in.
Weather: You'll receive a weather update on July 8. Light drizzle will not cancel this outing, but steady or heavy rain will. Leader will monitor weather and make a determination to go or cancel.
What to wear and bring: Clothing suited to weather. NO COTTON! Polyester, nylon or polypropylene are far superior and dry much faster if you get wet. Wear sunscreen. A hat will protect your head and face. Water shoes or river sandals for your feet. If it's hot, bring a bandana, get it wet and wear it around your neck.
Pets: This outing is not suitable for pets.
Restroom: Near the Moorage office.
Lunch/water: We'll take a lunch break so bring a lunch and a FULL water bottle. There is no water at the put-in -- fill up before you leave home.
Questions: Email the outing leader: tripsguy@aol.com .
