Kayak to the Columbia

Details

The outing: Putting in on Lake River at McCuddy's (Ridgefield) Marina, we'll paddle downstream to the Columbia, possibly seeing great blue herons, osprey and bald eagles. A lunch stop will be taken on a large sand bar at the mouth of Lake River before returning for the take-out.
Meeting time/location: 9:30 a.m., July 31/Thurs, at the marina. See directions below.
The leader needs: Your FULL name, email address, cell number. If you bring a guest (1 permitted), include the same info for them, and the name and cell number of an emergency contact.
Waiver: Sierra Club outings policy requires all participants to sign a waiver of liability. This is done at the meeting location at the marina.
Kayak rentals: If you plan to rent, you can rent online from Alder Creek Kayak's Ridgefield boathouse at the marina. Google "Alder Creek Kayak" and click on Ridgefield rentals. Rentals include paddle and pfd (life jacket).
Outing donation: Sierra Club members $2, non-members $4. Please have correct amount. We cannot accept Venmo, debit or credit cards at the meeting location. Checks accepted -- make to Sierra Club.
What to wear and bring: Clothing to suit weather. Avoid cotton! Polyester, nylon or polypropylene are far superior and will dry much faster if you get wet. A broad-brimmed hat will protect your head. Secure sunglasses with a croakie around your neck. River sandals or water shoes for your feet. Note: Pfd must be worn on the water. Don't forget your lunch and a full water bottle.
Directions: I-5 N to exit 14 (Pioneer St), turn L and drive 3 mi into downtown Ridgefield (drive around 3 roundabouts). Straight ahead at the light and turn L into the marina. Parking on the gravel (head-in) is free. If you park on the pavement, you'll need a parking permit from the machine at the rest room ($8/day).
Questions: Email the outing leader, tripsguy@aol.com .
