Fall Kayaking Ahead!
Details
The outing: Join us as we bid goodbye to our 2025 kayak season on one of our favorite streams, Lake River. We'll put-in and dip our paddles into the water at McCuddy's Marina adjoining Ridgefield, WA. Paddling south (upstream) on this gentle river, we'll pass floating homes and watch for osprey, great blue herons and bald eagles. We'll venture a little further upstream than we usually do, but will take a lunch break to stretch our legs before returning.
Directions: I-5 north to exit 14. Turn L and follow Pioneer St to downtown Ridgefield (about 3 miles). Note: Pioneer St has been under construction, so drive carefully. Drive straight ahead at the roundabouts. At the flashing red light, go straight ahead to the marina. Parking on the left on the gravel is free -- park head-in. If you park on the pavement, purchase a parking pass from the machine at the restroom ($8/day).
The leader needs: Your FULL name, cell number and email address. If you bring a guest (one allowed), include the same info for them. If you've previously provided this info, no need to do so again.
Waiver: Sierra Club outing policy requires all participants to sign a waiver of liability prior to getting on the water. Please be on time at the meeting location so we can get this done promptly.
Outing donation: Sierra Club members $2, non-members $4.
Weather: Rain, high wind or lightning cancels this outing. You'll receive a weather update on Oct. 7/Tues, so check Meetup for info.
Kayak rentals: If you need a rental, go to *aldercreek.com* and click on Ridgefield rentals to reserve in advance. Be sure you reserve for 3 hours.
If you bring your own kayak, don't forget your paddle and pfd (life jacket). Please no inflatables. We paddle at a moderate pace, but experience has shown that inflatables simply cannot keep up with the group.
What to wear and bring: Clothing to suit weather (no cotton). Polyester, nylon or polypropylene are far superior and will dry quickly if you get wet. Footwear: water shoes or river sandals. Hat: A broad-brimmed hat will protect your head. Sunglasses: Your eyes will thank you (attach a pogie so you won't lose them). Rain parka: Carry with you in case in rains while we're paddling. Water: Bring a FULL water bottle and your lunch.
Pets: This outing is not suitable for pets.
