Details
Two-hike outing: Change - We will hike the hillside rocky trail, first, because the hillsidews are full of more flowers. This is a great year for the flowers.
(A) Easy 1.2-mile paved loop trail on the riverside of the road, with some of the Gorge’s most spectacular river view scenery, with fields of purple grass widows, white saxifrage among the rocks, scattered white and pink woodland stars, and bush pink parsley, and bush yellow parsley down in the low area.
(B) Then we cross the road for a rocky loop two-mile hike up through the flower fields with views of the Columbia River. We start on the hillside gravel road, then down the narrow rocky trail to a sturdy bridge across the creek, up to the rocky loop trail, with 200 feet of elevation gain. Yellow stars and purple grass widows bloom on the hillside as we approach the bridge. Yellow bells are starting to bloom among the grasses, with large groups of small purple grass widows and areas of pink sea blush, yellow parsley, and various other flowers on the rocky hillsides. A few camas are blooming, but for the hillsides of blue camas, join us later for another hike in April. We will stop for the view and sit on rocks and eat snacks/lunch near the top before heading back down the loop to our cars.
All the flowers on hikes to Catherine Creek.
