Before signing up: Please read all outing details. You are responsible for knowing outing date, start time and what to wear and bring. If you sign up, put the outing date & time on your calendar and plan to participate.
The Outing: This is a group ride. **No one is left behind. **Our riding pace is 10-12 mph. Starting from the Clark PUD parking area (Mill Plain and Ft Vancouver Way), we'll pedal east on Evergreen Blvd to Columbia Way. Bearing right, we'll ride to Beach Drive, turn right and descend a steep hill to Wintler Park, named after an early Clark County pioneer. At the park, we'll connect with the Renaissance Trail and ride west to Marine Park Columbia House Blvd and then to Old Apple Tree Park (restrooms available at Marine Park).
At the Old Apple Tree, we cross the Land Bridge over SR 14 (Lewis & Clark Hwy) to the Pearson Air Museum.
The Air Museum: Admission is free. We'll take a break here to tour the museum and look at numerous vintage aircraft. Following our tour, we'll climb a short uphlll past the Ft Vancouver National Site visitor center and return to our start point. Total distance is 12-14 miles.
Outing donation: Sierra Club members $2, non-members $4. Donations support the work of the Loo Wit (SW Washington) Sierra Club Group. We accept cash or check (made out to Sierra Club). We cannot accept Venmo or any other form of electronic payment.
What to bring: Bicycle -- any bike will do, but ensure your bike is in good condition. Check tires, spokes, derailleur, chain, etc. If you find anything you can't repair yourself, consider going to a bike shop (allow time for this, bike shops are busy places). Also, helmets are required!
Don't forget a spare tube or patch kit if there's a flat. A red, flashing rear light is a good safety item. Bring a full water bottle that can be carried on your bike and a munchie or two.
What to wear: Clothing to suit weather. Bike-specific clothing is great, but isn't required.
Waiver/sign-up form: All participants must sign the waiver of release. Your FULL name, phone and email address, plus the name and phone of an emergency contact must be included. Email this info to the outing leader (tripsguy@aol.com) before the outing date -- this saves time at the meeting location.
Weather: We do NOT ride if it's raining, or if there is some other weather issue that would adversely impact our ride. You'll receive a weather update and reminder 2 days before the outing, on May 18.
Questions: Email the outing leader (Lehman Holder): tripsguy@aol.com.
