Wildlife Refuge Hike in Washougal, WA - 2 or 4 mile options

The Steigerwald Lake National Wildlife Refuge protects more than 1000 acres of former farmland, wetlands, and meadows on a lush floodplain at the western edge of the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area. Explore a riparian world of wetland meadows, snaking sloughs, cottonwood breaks, and shallow lakes that teem with amphibians and plenty of birds this time of year!

This is a moderate hike of around 2 to 4 miles on a very flat trail. We'll walk for 4 but you can turn back anytime - it's a simple trail. There is a lot of gravel though so hiking shoes or boots are recommended. Bring water, snacks, and various forms of sun protection including a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen. Bring binoculars too if you have them, as we should see some beautiful herons and hawks.

TOTAL MILES: 2 to 4.3 miles
ELEVATION GAIN: 65 feet, very flat
