Details

The outing: Starting from Clark Public Utilities (PUD) parking area, we'll ride west through downtown Vancouver and access a paved, off-road bike path near the Port of Vancouver, then join a bike lane on Lower River Road to Vancouver Lake for a short stop (restroom available). Continuing, we'll access another paved, off-road bike path to Frenchman's Bar County Park and the Columbia River (restroom available). Returning the same way, the only climb (a short one) is over the rail yard coming back into Vancouver. We'll stop for coffee and conversation before finishing at PUD. Total riding distance is approx 17 miles, all flat except for that one climb.
Directions to meeting location: Take exit 1-C off I-5 north, turn R to next light (Ft Vancouver Way), turn R and a quick R into PUD. Drive straight head and you'll see us.
Riding pace: We ride at "social pace" (10-12 mph). This is a group ride -- no one is left behind. Map: Each rider will receive a route map at the meeting location.
The leader needs: Your FULL NAME, cell number, email address and the name and number of an emergency contact. Sierra Club outings policy requires all participants to sign a standard waiver of release with this information. Including it with your signup will save time at the meeting location.
If you sign up: Don't be a no-show. You could prevent someone else from taking part if the outing fills. It's easy to cancel if you can't make it, and is simply common courtesy. You can cancel on Meetup, or by emailing the outing leader: tripsguy@aol.com .
Weather: Note that we do not ride if it's raining. Leader will post a weather update on Meetup two days before the outing, on May 30.
Outing donation: Sierra Club members $2, non-members $4. Having correct cash or check (to Sierra Club) helps. We cannot accept Venmo or debit/credit cards.
Medical: If you have a medical issue that might affect your participation in this outing, please email the leader privately (address above).
Pets: This outing is not suitable for pets.
What to bring and wear: Your bike -- any bike is okay, but please ensure your bike is in good condition. Check tires, brakes, cables, derailleur, etc. If you find something you can't repair yourself, consider a bike shop. You should carry on your bike (or with you), a patch kit or spare tube that will fit your bike's tire, at least one FULL water bottle and an energy bar or two.
Helmet: Bike helmet is required on Sierra Club rides. Bike gloves: Can protect your hands in the event of a fall. ***Clothing: ***Wear clothing suited to weather. Bike wear is great, but is not required. Footwear: Bike shoes, cycling sandals or running shoe (no flip flops). Rain jacket: If it looks rainy (but isn't raining), bring a rain jacket. Sunglasses/sunscreen: Your eyes and skin will thank you if it's sunny and warm.
