Salsa is a very social dance, enjoyed around the world. It provices the perfect opportunity to connect with all kinds of different people. Portland is lucky to have a very large, and ever growing, Salsa community. There are Salsa performers who perform and compete all over the US. There are great Salsa DJ’s and local Salsa Bands. There are numerous local Salsa instructors. There are also, amazing Salsa clubs in Portland. And to top it all off, several times a year the city plays host to special Salsa weekends that are well attended by people from all over the US.

Most classes and dinner events posted here are open to all ages. Please note, however, that most dance events tend to be 21 and over (take place in night clubs with alcohol service).

"Cuban Salsa" Casino Classes : 3 Levels!

Vitalidad Movement Arts & Events Center (VMAC)

- Beginner Level 1: Wednesdays 8:30pm - Beyond Beginner Level 2: Thursdays 6:30pm - Intermediate level 3: Thursdays 7:30pm A common misunderstanding about Casino (on of many Cuban dance forms) is that it is only done as a group (i.e., Rueda de Casino). In reality, many of the calls you learn in the Rueda can be led and followed in a partner setting, and you'll find yourself partner dancing 95% of the time at places where Casino-style dance is held. Obviously, the concepts you learn in this class will help you if you end up taking Rueda classes, as well! You'll learn: - How to communicate with your partner as a lead and follow - The necessary footwork you need to know for all the foundation Casino turn patterns - The differences between Timba music and Salsa music - Body isolation - adding "funk" to your Casino dance Limited spots. REGISTRATION REQUIRED. No walk-ins. PARTNER REQUIRED. This class will be a 4-week cycle. Couples must enroll for entire month. Registration and regulations for in-person classes at VMACPDX.COM
