Welcome to The Happy Hour Book Club! 📚🍷 If you're a book lover who enjoys mixing the pleasure of reading with a good happy hour, this is the club for you. Every week, we’ll meet at a fabulous tapas restaurant and chat about books over some food and drinks.

Expect a warm welcome, great food, great people, and a chance to share your thoughts on our current book. Participation is encouraged but never required. Feel free to dive into the discussion or simply sit back and enjoy a glass of wine.

April 2nd is our first ever meetup. Here’s everything you need to know to join the fun:

What we’re reading: Voting is open for our first book of the series! Follow us on Instagram @happyhourbookclubporto to vote for the book that interests you the most. If you don’t have Instagram, feel free to send a message with your vote directly through Meetup. The options are:

  1. The Titanic Survivors Book Club by Timothy Schaffert: “From the author of The Perfume Thief a remarkable tale about the life-changing power of books and second chances, following the Titanic librarian who opens a bookshop in Paris where he meets a secret society of survivors.”

  2. Our Missing Hearts by Celeste Ng: "It’s set in a not-too-distant future where entire sections of the population are deemed un-American and forced away from their families. It follows the story of a young boy named Bird on the search for his mother Margaret, a poet whose work was deemed unpatriotic. I was so invested in the future of this mother and son."

  3. The Sanitorium by Sarah Pearce: "The Sanatorium is an eerie, atmospheric
novel that had me completely on the edge of my seat. Let's set the mood... You're in a
    remote location-at a hotel-and there's a
snowstorm. The winds are howling, the snow is pelting in every direction, there's a missing person, and a dead body shows up....!"

Voting will close and our first book will be announced on March 25th so we can start reading!

Weekly Reading: We aim for about 50 pages a week. The exact number of chapters may vary, depending on the book. We want to keep a leisurely pace that fits our happy hour vibe. We’ll keep you updated on our weekly target once our first book of the series is selected.

Limited Seating: Trama welcomes up to 16 of us weekly. Spots are on a first-come, first-served basis, but we expect availability to change regularly, so if you can’t secure a spot right away, feel free to join our next meetup!

Cost: Joining a meetup costs 10 euros, covering a delicious spread of vegetarian, Spanish-inspired tapas. Drinks are separate, with bottles of wine starting at 11 euros. Sharing is caring!

Worry-Free Attendance: Falling behind on readings? Join us anyway for a great time (if you don't mind a few spoilers!). If you miss a week, just catch up for the next meetup.

Open Genre: From mysteries to memoirs, all book genres are on the table. Votes and suggestions are taken through our Instagram.

Food and Drinks: Enjoy shared vegetarian tapas prepared exclusively by Trama. Check out our Instagram highlights to see what you can expect!

Book Access: Links to eBooks, free PDFs, and updates on local availability will be provided through Instagram stories and highlights once we’ve selected our first read.

Payment Made Easy: The 10 euros (plus any drinks you choose to order) is paid directly to the restaurant. Both cash and card are accepted.

Reserve your spot and follow us on Instagram @happyhourbookclubporto to help us choose our first read of the series!
