The Forbiden Fruits

Details
Dear Fellow Book Lovers,
This month, we invite you to step off the well-trodden path and into more shadowed territory—with our theme: The Forbidden Fruits.
Throughout history, certain books have been banned, whispered about, or tucked away on the highest shelves—not because they were poorly written, but because they dared to challenge the boundaries of what society deemed acceptable. Some taboos exist for good reason, rooted in collective ethics or historical wounds. But others are ever present relics of fear, prejudice, or an unwillingness to confront the uncomfortable.
This month, we’re not just reading; we’re questioning. What makes a topic taboo? Why are certain stories silenced while others celebrated? And how do we, as readers, make sense of those distinctions?
Choose a book that once shocked, provoked, or simply dared to say the unsayable, or even bring a more recent work from our era where all taboos are disregarded in modern western societies, that address one of these presently or previously discomfortable theme. Whether it’s controversial, once-banned, or just quietly subversive, bring something that adds to the conversation—and perhaps even unsettles it.
We’re looking forward to a rich and thoughtful discussion.
Warmly,
Bruno & Ron
P.S.: This time around we need to finish sharply at 18:00 and leave Look.Sharp at that time. So, after, if the discussion goes on, we can go have a drink somewhere else.
