OUR NEXT HIKE - PR2 GUIMARÃES - ROTA DA CITÂNIA DE BRITEIROS

Thanks to those who came on the last hike. We had a great day climbing up to the tops of the hills to the north of Viana.

THE NEXT HIKE IS PLANNED FOR TUESDAY MAY 13TH.

PR2 GUIMARÃES - ROTA DA CITÂNIA DE BRITEIROS

This will be a gentle 12km hike along the rivers and in the forests and hills to the north of Guimarães. Unlike the last hike, this one will only have about 200 metres of elevation!

The trail passes through the Castro of the Citânia de Briteiros and we will have the opportunity to see one of the most important archeological sites in North Portugal.

The trail starts from the village of Briteiros, and gently climbs 200 metres, skirting the woodland and following ancient roadways and fields before entering the forest and arriving at the Citânia .
The archeological site will be an excellent place for our picnic lunch, and perhaps some exploration.

The second half of the hike loops back through the forest, passing a large waterfall before arriving back at our starting point.

The total length of the hike will be about 12km, plus a little more for exploring the Citânia.
Please note that the journey by car from central Porto is approximately 1 hour.

It will not be a difficult hike , but some stamina is needed to climb 200metres. Please only sign up if you have the fitness to do the walk. Please bring proper boots, a sunhat is essential as well.

Bring lots and lots of water (if the sun is out you will need it) and a picnic lunch. It will be about a 4 hour walk, plus some time for lunch and exploration of the Citânia.

There is also an interesting museum near to the trail head that explains the history and finds associated with the excavation of the Castro. There will be time to visit this after the hike if you wish.

We will meet at a cafe near the trailhead. Once you RSVP I will send the cafe location and meeting time.

We will keep the numbers to less than 10. So places will be first come first served.

This hike is only suitable for people with their own transport (or a friend with a car!!).

Please note that this is a purely social not for profit group. The hike will be held on a publicly accessible marked trail, but all liability for your safety lies with yourselves. It is your responsibility to ensure that you have the right walking equipment and have sufficient fitness to complete the hike.
