• Community Kitchen Volunteering
    ​​Sign up​ and participate​ because you are committed to living an inspired, meaningful, and happy life. When: 3rd Saturday of each month from 4:15 - 6:30PM (often done by 6:15) Where: A Just Harvest (AJH), Rogers Park Why: To serve with a smile as help feed the patrons of A Just Harvest. What to do: A staff member of AJH will assign jobs to do before dinner, during dinner, and after dinner cleanup. Event commitments: • Be on time and honor your RSVP. We have committed to bringing 5 people, but we can bring more as sometimes the other organization has less people. • Wear appropriate attire that follow health codes (long pants, shirts covering shoulders, closed toe shoes) • On your name tag, please include PF so we know you are part of our team as they have others volunteering too. ​ Special Notes: • Transportation: Red line stop Paulina/Howard. There is metered street parking directly in front and free side street parking the next block over. • We sometimes grab a bite to eat after volunteering somewhere close by. We encourage you to come check it out as a bystander first as we think once you see it, you will probably want to participate, so come check it out and see for yourself. Coming with an open mind, open heart, open arms and a willingness to spread kindness Being kind knowing I am representing Positive Focus and kindness is a core value Taking the duration and strength of a hug from the receiver as I don't know their comfort level and/or if they have any physical injury. Paying attention to the environment and making sure to not be intimidating if we have a large group of huggers. Keeping the event about hugs while allowing high fives/fist bumps. Kissing of any kind is inappropriate. Smiling and having fun Note: We have extra signs to share, but feel free to make your own. Sometimes due to weather we cancel or shorten the experience, so watch the calendar and come near the beginning in case it's shortened. Sometimes we share that corner with protesters. We keep going high and doing our thing - focusing on love and kindness. We will also have signs with affirmative messages, so you can hold that too if you'd rather not get a hug. FREE HUG EVENT COMMITMENTS: I am committed to... • Coming with an open mind, open heart, open arms, and willingness to spread kindness. • Remembering you are a representative of Positive Focus, so be kind and respectful as kindness is our core value. • Pay attention to scent and not wear too strong of colognes, etc. • Letting the huggee determine the strength of the hug as they may have an injury. Also, let them determine how long the embrace lasts so if they pull away..let them. • Always allow people to walk by without getting a hug. When we have a larger group of huggers it can be intimidating, so make sure people feel free to walk past. • People will ask what why we are doing it, just say to spread kindness. If they seem to want to get involved, you can give them a PF card. • Keeping the event about hugs while allowing high fives/fist bumps. Kissing of any kind is inappropriate. • Sometimes there are protester's sharing the area with us. We go high and do our thing - do not engage with them as you are a representative of PF.     Join me to watch this powerful documentary on Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. At the age of 85, U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has developed a lengthy legal legacy while becoming an unexpected pop culture icon. Explore her unique and unknown personal journey of her rise to the nation's highest court. What to bring: An open heart and mind, and feel free to bring something small to share food/beveragel I will have popcorn and drinks. $5 donation appreciated but not required. The movie will start promply at 6:45 so please be on time. And honor your RSVP. The movie is 90 minutes so it will give us time to chat about it after. Parking: Public transportation is probably best. Bus or red line. There is free street parking if you can find it. There are a couple paid outdoor lots close by as well. And meters on Sheridan with a short walk to me.

    Join me to watch this uplifting movie. I initially didn't want to see it as I'm not a fan of the circus. But when a trusted friend told me I would LOVE it, I went. I LOVED it. It's not a factual depiction of PT Barnum, but this story is one of inspiration, hope, believe, and the music will live within you for a long time to come. About the movie: Celebrates the birth of show business and tells of a visionary who rose from nothing to create a spectacle that became a worldwide sensation.
