Perched along the bluffs on the west side of the Willamette River, the Dunthorpe area attracted well-to-do Portlanders who wanted to live in a wooded, quiet neighborhood close to Portland. Their elegant, spacious residences display a variety of styles popular in the early twentieth century; including designs by noted local architects Roscoe Hemenway, Ellis Lawrence, Wade Pipes and others. Dunthorpe is one of the most architecturally rich neighborhoods in Portland.

This is a short walk of about 1 mile with all of the tour on the east side of Hwy 43/Riverside Drive.

We will start and end the tour at the Bishop’s Close (aka Elk Rock Garden). (see photo above)
