Rencontre #17 : Apprendre PostgreSQL quand on est DBA Oracle

Details

I began my journey into the world of PostgreSQL less than 2 years ago, bringing with me 20 years’ experience as an Oracle DBA. I’m often asked “which do you like best, PostgreSQL or Oracle ?” but I prefer the question “what has it been like to learn PostgreSQL as an Oracle DBA?”. Rather than attempt a direct comparison of the two databases, I share my experience of “converting” to PostgreSQL; the things I’ve learnt along the way, the surprises, the frustrations and some of the things I’ve come to love about PostgreSQL.

Qui est Karen ?
Karen has been an Oracle DBA for 20 years and has spoken several times at Oracle conferences. She has found it strange going back to feeling like a junior DBA but has been having great fun as she has taught herself how to install, configure and manage PostgreSQL databases over the past two years.
Outside of the world of databases she loves cycling, mountain biking, skiing and spending time with her family in the mountains where she lives.
