Because this visit is with students who are either moderately or severely Challenged it is necessary that both the therapy dog and handler are comfortable coping with the unpredictable situations that can arise. It is possible that some dogs would not be happy doing this visit as some of the students can be very loud, some are curious as to how eyes and ears work on dogs and can be very heavy handed with their petting!!! AND of course complete confidentiality regarding the students is required.
Having said this - it is a wonderfully rewarding visit! And if you come regularly the kids and staff get to know you and the environment relaxes. It is the most amazing thing to watch these kids make great steps in their development...so heart warming!
