Test Driving the Power BI Modeling MCP Server
Details
Interest in AI agents is skyrocketing, and this is particularly true in the Fabric and Power BI ecosystem. Microsoft recently released an official Power BI Modeling MCP Server (currently in preview), and if you've spent any time on LinkedIn lately, you'll have seen the buzz.
So what does it actually do? The Modeling MCP Server lets AI agents interact with Power BI through natural language. Think creating tables, columns, measures, and relationships. Bulk operations. Validating DAX queries. All through conversational prompts rather than clicking through menus.
This session will be highly interactive. We'll start with a demo, then open things up for you to suggest ideas and scenarios to test out live, from beginner modelling tasks through to more advanced patterns. Everyone welcome - from new to expert Power BI users.
But with great power comes some risk. Delegating control of your Power BI development to an AI raises real questions about governance, audit trails, and access control. Steve will cover some of those risks and offer practical suggestions to help mitigate them.
