Online Group Lessons: Music reading for SATB choir 😃

Details

Jeff Hutchins is accepting students who want to learn how to sight-read choral music (in the tradition of community, school, concert, and church choirs who use SATB+ sheet music.)

Jeff is happy to help sopranos, altos, tenors, and basses with their questions and concerns regarding their music for choir. He is also developing a curriculum that can be used both remotely and in person for choir enthusiasts to improve their leadership within their section.

The idea is to improve musicianship and leadership because we all love to sing in choir, and we all want to be better at it! This is for your own skill-building not to stress you out! It feels great to be a leader in your section, and if you appreciate the art form, I would love to speak with you about it. I’ll teach you some of my tricks. I’ve come to realize that it is the thing I do best.

Jeff Hutchins is one of Connecticut’s most experienced choral musicians, having worked with both New York City career professionals and volunteers in small church music programs. Jeff prides himself on being able to sing alto, tenor, and bass choral lines in all styles of music, and he takes pleasure in sight-reading it. He wants to help choir enthusiasts take their art to the next level! There is so much satisfaction in becoming a leader of your section rather than a follower. Jeff has picked up some practical tips and tricks over the years that assist the musician in making better educated guesses as to what the next note is, and how to sing it properly and musically. Jeff has decided to start teaching online as this particular ā€œmusicianship instructionā€ is actually quite doable on Zoom more so than other kinds of music lessons.
