What we’re about
Seneca said, “It is not that we have a short time to live, but that we waste a lot of it.”But how can we ensure we’re truly living our best lives?
Join us, in person, as we explore practical philosophy from across time and cultures to tackle this most essential question.
We’ll read and discuss Stoic writings (like Marcus Aurelius, Seneca, Epictetus), Epicurean philosophy, Japanese reflections (like Kenkō and Chōmei), select Eastern wisdom, existentialist works, and writers like Emerson and Thoreau — with a strong focus on applying timeless insights to modern life.
Each meeting features a short pre-assigned reading, a brief introduction, and open guided discussion. This isn’t an academic seminar or debate club — it’s a place for curious people to think deeply, share openly, and leave with real ideas for living the good life.
First meeting (in August or early September; exact date TBD): Seneca, On the Shortness of Life. Group size of around 15 or so.
